Karl Grupe is an observationalist. Often working with found photography, documentary and snapshot aesthetics and disruptive performance his artistic interests lie in the relationship between technology and perception. For him, the information in photography does not have to be delightful or loaded with cosmetics in order to satisfy a viewer’s attention. Images serve as the dog-eared pages of a journal evidencing a journey or the outcome of restrictions placed in the silo of their performance. Seeking elements of purity and a dis-glamour in photography is allowed and can be often be found behind his practice.
